These are summaries of Japanese media reactions to Prime Minister Kan's Recovery Commission (復興構想会議).

    • Japan's "way of being" must be reexamined from a broad viewpoint. Prime Minister Kan's panel is merely copied from the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995. But that is not enough. The Hanshin Earthquake caused major damage, but this damage was localized. The Tohoku Earthquake's damage ranged from Tohoku to Kanto, many local governments were obliterated by the earthquake and tsunami, and the nuclear accident may lead to major radiation damage. This earthquake also caused major damage to Japan's economy ranging from agriculture to automotive and electrical parts makers.
    • Japan's architecture must be rethought broadly, including energy policy, industrial locations, supply chains and lifestyles.
    • Competing proposals have been put forth by Hiroshi Komiyama and diet members from both the LDP and DPJ.
